About

Herbie Johnson served as a Captain with the Chicago Fire Department and dedicated his life to helping others. On November 2, 2012, Herbie tragically lost his life while battling a house fire in the Gage Park neighborhood.

Herbie was known for always being there for those in need. Whether someone was facing illness, loss, or difficult times, he never hesitated to lend a helping hand and support his community.

In honor of his life and legacy, the Herbie Johnson Foundation was established after his passing to keep his memory alive. The foundation provides assistance to families of first responders experiencing the loss of a loved one or facing a serious illness, helping to ease the financial burdens that often come during these challenging times.
